The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparks shoots for a double leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls well. He's pushed Sparks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sparks lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Velasquez circles away quickly and effectively.
Velasquez throws a body punch but Sparks moves out of range.
Sparks lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sparks.

It looks like Louis Velasquez has been cut.
Sparks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Velasquez swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Sparks tries for a takedown but Velasquez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
