PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Hart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Biggie Smalls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bret Hart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Biggie Smalls!
The judges for this bout are , and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hart looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smalls is fending him off so far but Hart persists. Nope, Smalls circles away and we're back to standing.
Smalls looks for a takedown but Hart sprawls well.
Smalls cracks a nice hook into Hart's ribs.
Hart gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
letting Smalls counter with a right hand.


It looks like Bret Hart has been cut.
Smalls moves in looking to clinch but Hart pushes him off.

Hart decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smalls avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hart.
Smalls is not content to let Hart control the position.
Smalls is in trouble now - Hart has advanced to mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smalls tries to lock up and control but Hart gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hart is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Smalls is surviving well by controlling Hart's body position as best he can.
Hart sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Hart tries to control but Smalls wriggling away.
Hart won't let Smalls get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smalls can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hart prevents Smalls from getting the reversal.
Hart tries to push Smalls's head away but Smalls is holding on tight.
Hart throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Smalls because Hart loaded up on that one.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smalls is squirming around, avoiding Hart's attempts to control the action.
Hart cracks Smalls with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Smalls working to try and regain half guard.
Smalls in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Hart throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Hart has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hart is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smalls to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smalls shrugs it off.
Hart is breathing heavily.

Smalls can't escape the position.
Smalls looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.
Hart takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Smalls keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hart lands with some strikes.
Smalls is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hart can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smalls is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smalls is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Smalls wants to hold on but Hart pushes him away.

That was a close round but I would say that Bret Hart will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hart shoots in for a takedown but Smalls shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Hart takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Smalls throws a nice looking combination but Hart bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hart shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smalls as he avoids it easily.
Smalls attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Hart steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smalls.
Smalls dips to his left and cracks Hart with an uppercut!
Smalls cracks Hart with a right hand to the side of the head.
Nice sprawl there from Hart as Smalls shoots in.
Biggie Smalls seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hart slips under a jab from Smalls.
A lazy left from Smalls finds it's target.
Nice takedown defense from Smalls. No joy for Hart on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Hart. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hart decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hart looking to pass the guard.
Smalls has a closed guard, preventing Hart from standing up.
Smalls is pulling down on Hart's head to control his posture.

Smalls is looking to stand up but Hart isn't so interested in that idea.
Smalls keeping moving, preventing Hart from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A nice combination there by Smalls.
Smalls throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hart stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nice uppercut lands for Smalls. That snapped Hart's head back.
Smalls lands with a nice combination. Hart backs away looking to recover.
Hart fails with a takedown attempt.
Hart takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Hart moves out of range as Smalls throws a body kick.
Smalls should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Smalls moves in looking to clinch but Hart pushes him off.
Smalls fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Hart closes the distance and pushes Smalls back into the cage.
Hart tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hart is trying to drag Smalls to the mat but Smalls just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Hart prevents Smalls from breaking the clinch.
Smalls wants to break free but Hart has control.
Hart drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Smalls gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hart tries for a takedown but Smalls manages to get underhooks.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Smalls wants to break the clinch but can't.
Smalls tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Hart's elbow.

Biggie Smalls showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Hart misses with a takedown
and Smalls counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Biggie Smalls seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Hart shoots in and gets a takedown into Smalls's guard.
Hart trying to control the position from guard on top but Smalls is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hart postures up in Smalls's guard and throws a big left but Smalls blocks it.
Smalls really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hart. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hart accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smalls wants to get back to his feet but Hart is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hart won't allow Smalls to sweep him here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Smalls utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hart is really struggling to control Smalls but he's trying to hold on to the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Bret Hart wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Smalls closes the distance but Hart moves to the side

and Hart counters with a shoot takedown. Smalls fights it but they end up in guard.

Hart goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Smalls rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hart's guard! Nice work there by Smalls!

Smalls is looking to stand up but Hart won't let him.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hart is on top in guard.
Hart pushes down on Smalls's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Smalls is refusing to be controlled, as Hart sits in half guard.
Hart with the ground and pound but Smalls uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Hart trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hart trying to control but Smalls is working from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Bret Hart just wasn't active enough.
Smalls connects with a right hand. Hart shakes it off.
Smalls connects with a nice looking jab.
Hart shoots in but no luck this time.

and Hart counters with a shoot takedown. Smalls fights it but they end up in guard.
Smalls lands a decent punch to the body there.
Hart throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hart passes Smalls's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smalls keeps working.

Bret Hart showed his dominance in that final round.
