PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Armenian Samoan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunter comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The DOC vs Earshot kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Jake Hunter is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Armenian Samoan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Horrible takedown by Samoan or perhaps it was just good defense by Hunter which made him look bad.

Samoan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hunter to the mat! Hunter manages to get full guard.
Samoan stands and throws Hunter's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunter tries to buck Samoan off but Samoan is having none of it.

Samoan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hunter, who protects the arm well.
Samoan in side control, throwing shots but Hunter defends.
Hunter is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Samoan stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Samoan has a takedown stuffed.

Hunter stuffs the takedown attempt from Samoan. Samoan gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Armenian Samoan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Samoan shoots in but no luck this time.
Samoan misses with a low kick.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Samoan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hunter manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter keeping moving, preventing Samoan from controlling successfully.
Samoan is looking to work some ground and pound but Hunter has wrist control.

Hunter is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Samoan's half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Samoan is on top in guard.
Hunter wants to sweep but no luck.

Samoan avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Samoan tries to free his leg and advance position but Hunter is retaining full guard.
Samoan forces his way into half guard.
Hunter tries to get to full guard but Samoan has control of the leg.

Samoan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hunter!
Samoan has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hunter's face.
Samoan looking to control but Hunter is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Hunter takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Hunter holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Samoan tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Hunter wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Samoan.
Samoan wants to control the pace but Hunter is squirming around nicely.
Samoan throws a sloppy strike and Hunter uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Hunter has ended up in Samoan's guard.

Samoan throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hunter uses it to pass to side control.
Samoan gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Samoan works his way to full guard. Good work.

Samoan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hunter.

Samoan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hunter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Samoan has Hunter in his guard.
Samoan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hunter stands and throws Samoan's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Samoan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Hunter working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Samoan is looking for a sweep.
Samoan is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hunter's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Samoan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hunter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hunter's back!

Samoan lands with a hammerfist to the side of Hunter's head.
Samoan misses with a punch to the head.
Armenian Samoan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hunter turns into Samoan and is now in his guard.
Hunter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hunter stopping the sweep attempt from Samoan.
Armenian Samoan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Samoan is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Samoan is pushing down on Hunter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hunter is fighting to maintain full guard but Samoan has managed to sneak the leg through.

Jake Hunter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Samoan works his way into side control.
Hunter is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Samoan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hunter will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Samoan works to advance to full mount. Hunter defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
BOOM! Samoan connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Samoan, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
