PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sean Varelans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Fetch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jake Fetch was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Varelans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Fetch!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fetch drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fetch pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Varelans is keeping the position for now.
Varelans will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fetch throws and elbow that misses. Varelans uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fetch's guard. Nice move by Varelans!
Varelans in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Varelans trying to control but Fetch is working from the bottom.
Varelans postures up.
Varelans seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Varelans wants to control from the top but Fetch keeps moving.

Fetch throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Fetch avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fetch wants to sweep here but Varelans controlling him for the moment.
Varelans trying to control the position from guard on top but Fetch is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Varelans stays in close to Fetch's body and controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sean Varelans has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Varelans misses with a takedown attempt

and Fetch counters with a single leg into guard. Varelans didn't expect that.
Fetch wants to pass the guard but Varelans is keeping the position.
Fetch looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Fetch gets to his feet. Varelans looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Fetch shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Varelans keeping moving, preventing Fetch from controlling successfully.
Varelans on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Varelans tries to get out of the position.
Fetch throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Varelans wants to stand but Fetch is controlling the position.
Fetch not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Varelans wants to get back to his feet but Fetch is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fetch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Varelans swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fetch trying to control the position from guard on top but Varelans is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jake Fetch wasn't active enough on the ground.

Fetch darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fetch missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Fetch dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Varelans counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Fetch!
Fetch tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Fetch bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Fetch postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Fetch is working Varelans over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Fetch working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Fetch working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Varelans's head.

Varelans keeping moving, preventing Fetch from controlling successfully.
Fetch trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Fetch trying to control but Varelans is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Varelans working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Fetch.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jake Fetch.

Varelans drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fetch is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Varelans off and has taken his back!
Fetch lands a shot to the head.

Fetch has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Varelans has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Varelans controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fetch throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Fetch has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Varelans has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Fetch working for a choke but Varelans is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Varelans is trying to get back to his feet but Fetch has full control of the position and if anything, Varelans has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Fetch trying to control momentarily.
Fetch is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Varelans. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Varelans manages to scramble and ends up in full guard, under a barage of strikes . Great composure from Varelans.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jake Fetch will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Fetch shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Varelans is trying to defend but Fetch finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Varelans has one foot on Fetch's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Varelans takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fetch is desperately trying to improve his position but Varelans has a good base and remains in mount.

Fetch tries to hold on but Varelans pushes him away.
Fetch is squirming around, avoiding Varelans's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fetch really wants to buck Varelans off and get back to his feet.
Varelans controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fetch tries to hold on but Varelans pushes him away.
Fetch regains half guard.
Varelans trying to control the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Sean Varelans wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Varelans gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sean Varelans has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fetch wants to control from the top but Varelans keeps moving.
Fetch slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fetch throws and elbow that misses. Varelans uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fetch's guard. Nice move by Varelans!
Varelans wants to control from the top but Fetch keeps moving.
Fetch looking for a sweep. Not yet Fetch, not yet.
Fetch is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jake Fetch was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Fetch tries for a takedown but Varelans circles away easily

and Varelans counters with a shoot takedown. Fetch fights it but they end up in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sean Varelans showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fetch has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
