PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Mon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dolfh Ziggler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joey Mon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dolfh Ziggler!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ziggler pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ziggler throws a left that rocks Mon and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Ziggler dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Mon regain composure!


Mon is rocked!


It looks like Joey Mon has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ziggler has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Oh Mon is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ziggler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mon seems to have got his legs back now.
Ziggler misses with a straight left.
Ziggler swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ziggler tries to land a front kick but Mon steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Ziggler lands with a slapping head kick.
Ziggler throws a sloppy head kick and Mon moves out of range easily.

Mon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ziggler's half guard.
Mon not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mon content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Mon uses his free foot to push down on Ziggler's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ziggler.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mon goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ziggler turns into him and now he's in Mon's guard.
Ziggler wants to stand but Mon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mon is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ziggler dives into side control.
Mon pushes Ziggler away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Ziggler gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dolfh Ziggler dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Joey Mon's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mon swinging wildly here.
Ziggler throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Dolfh Ziggler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mon steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ziggler.

Ziggler drops Mon with a right and a left! Ziggler comes rushing in but Mon regains his composure and manages to keep Ziggler in guard.
Mon is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ziggler is controlling him.

Mon wriggles free and stands up.

Ziggler looks to land a combination but Mon avoids it well.
Joey Mon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ziggler throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mon lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Mon.


It looks like Dolfh Ziggler has been cut.
Ziggler is breathing heavily.
Ziggler swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ziggler swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mon tries to clinch but Ziggler moves out of range.
Mon looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mon scores with a three punch combo!
A jab from Ziggler misses.
Nice shot lands for Mon.
Ziggler throws a shot from downtown. Mon moves away and avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ziggler looks to clinch

and Mon counters with a takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
The referee asks Mon politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mon prefers to stall for the moment though.
Mon working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Mon taking a breather here.

Mon grinds an elbow into Ziggler's temple.
Mon working the head and body with strikes.
Mon has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Ziggler!
Mon raining down shots from the mount!
Mon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mon landing strikes from the mount and Ziggler is in trouble!

Mon lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Mon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mon lands with some strikes.
Mon with the ground and pound from mount.
Mon raining down shots from the mount!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mon scoring with strikes but Ziggler is staying in there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joey Mon dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Mon has Ziggler up against the cage in a clinch.
Mon managing to block the knees to the body from Ziggler.
Mon is trying to drag Ziggler to the mat but Ziggler just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mon tries for a takedown. No joy.
Ziggler working hard to break the clinch.

Mon has picked Ziggler up - he's going for a ride! Mon dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Ziggler is trying to stand up here but Mon is controlling him well.
Mon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ziggler keeps working.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ziggler wants to get back to his feet.
Mon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Well, if Mon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Joey Mon wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Ziggler swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Mon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mon lands the left hand.
Mon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ziggler sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Mon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ziggler misses with a wild combination.
Mon misses with a two punch combination.

Some wild striking there from Mon.
Ziggler throws a combination that misses

and Mon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mon.
Mon goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ziggler prevents it.
Mon has Ziggler pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ziggler manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ziggler breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ziggler turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Mon feints and as Ziggler raises his hands in defense, Mon changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ziggler is looking to stand up but Mon isn't so interested in that idea.

Mon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ziggler throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Mon clinches.
Ziggler tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Ziggler prevents a takedown attempt there.
Mon keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ziggler's efforts to push away.

Ziggler softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Ziggler can't find room to land a body shot as Mon controls the action.
Ziggler throws a knee to the head but misses.
Mon drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ziggler wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Mon takes a knee right on the jaw!
Ziggler has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mon fails to pull guard.
Ziggler lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Mon works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Ziggler keeping moving, preventing Mon from controlling successfully.
Mon has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mon working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Joey Mon showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Mon has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
