PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Earl Clarke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amir Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Earl Clarke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Amir Khan!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Glass and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab from Khan.

Khan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Khan thows a huge punch but Clarke dodges it nicely.
Khan not doing much here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Khan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Clarke knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Khan decides to return to a standing position.
Clarke doesn't manage to clinch there - Khan circles away.
Khan throws a nice looking combination but Clarke bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Clarke fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Khan is out of range.
Clarke tries to clinch up.
Khan misses with a takedown attempt - Clarke sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Khan keeps the fight on the outside.

Clarke ducks under a wild hook from Khan.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Khan avoids the head kick by Clarke.
Clarke will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Some wild striking there from Clarke.
Clarke tries to clinch but Khan is having none of it.
Clarke throws a right and a left that Khan avoids nicely.
Clarke wants to clinch up but Khan keeps it at a distance.
Clarke throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Khan counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Khan jumps guard.

Khan pushes Clarke off and scrambles back to his feet.
Khan circles away from the clinch attempt

and Khan counters by moving into the clinch.

Khan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Khan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Khan is on top in guard.
Khan stops Clarke from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Clarke really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Clarke is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Khan dives into side control.
Khan is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Clarke will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Khan has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Clarke!
Clarke tries to buck Khan off but Khan takes his back!
Khan is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amir Khan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Clarke tries to clinch up

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Khan counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Khan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Khan works over Clarke's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Earl Clarke has been cut.
Khan throws a sloppy head kick and Clarke moves out of range easily.
Clarke wants to clinch

and Khan counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Khan is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Khan gets to his feet - Clarke follows without any prompting.
Clarke darts in trying to clinch

and Khan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Clarke's guard.

Khan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clarke swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Clarke is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Khan is controlling him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Khan stops Clarke from standing up.
Clarke keeping moving, preventing Khan from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Amir Khan wasn't active enough on the ground.
Clarke tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Khan counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Khan.
Clarke wants to stand but Khan is controlling the position.
Khan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan passes into half guard.
Khan trying to pass the guard but Clarke defending well.
Amir Khan has got the better of the ground game so far.
Clarke is refusing to be controlled, as Khan sits in half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Khan escapes and gets back to his feet.
Clarke throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Clarke throws a body kick that misses.
Clarke closes the distance but Khan moves to the side

and Khan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Khan decides to return to a standing position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Khan is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Clarke.
Clarke tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Khan counters by moving into the clinch.
Clarke is trying to break the clinch but Khan has him pressed against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amir Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Earl Clarke's cut.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Khan throwing strikes here but Clarke is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Clarke wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Khan.
Khan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Khan lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Clarke hang on?

Clarke wants to try and get back to his feet.

Khan has hold of Clarke's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Clarke manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Khan thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Khan scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Clarke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Khan on the ground.

Let's hope that Khan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Amir Khan wasn't active enough on the ground.
Clarke ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Khan moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Amir Khan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Khan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
