The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua misses with the combination.
Welch dodges the punch combination from Rua.
Rua lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Welch circles away quickly and effectively.
Welch tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Welch moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.
Rua takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Welch changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rua tries to avoid it but Welch manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rua to the ground. Rua escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Welch lets loose with a powerful body kick. Rua will feel that in the morning.
Welch throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

A bone on bone clash there as Rua blocks the leg kick.

and Rua counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
A nice combination there by Rua.
Dan Welch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Welch looks to land a left hand but Rua moved out of range nicely.
Mauricio Rua is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rua slips a straight right by Welch.
A bone on bone clash there as Rua blocks the leg kick.
Welch tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Rua counters with a left and a right that stings Welch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Rua counters with a crisp one two that drops Welch! Rua thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Welch to his feet! Welch is in big trouble!

and Welch takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Welch wants to clinch but Rua slips to the side
and Rua counters with a left and a right that stings Welch.
Welch tries to grapple but his opponent circles
enabling Rua to counter with a crisp jab.
Welch throws a combination that misses
and Welch takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rua looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Welch closes the distance but Rua moves to the side
and Rua counters with a two punch combo.
Welch looks gassed!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Welch lands with a nice combination. Rua backs away looking to recover.
Welch throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rua's waist but Rua gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Welch off to one side.

enabling Rua to counter with a crisp jab.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rua throws a series of strikes that have Welch backpedaling.
Welch walks into a left hand.

Welch darts in trying to clinch
and Rua counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
The fight stays on the outside here - Welch looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rua lands a left and a right that send Welch crashing to the mat, dazed. Rua thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Rua steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Welch is out on his feet! Rua sets himself and nearly takes Welch's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
