The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
van Veen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kuikka is fending him off so far but van Veen persists. Nope, Kuikka circles away and we're back to standing.

Kuikka closes the distance and clinches.

and Kuikka makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. van Veen really felt that one!

van Veen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
van Veen is looking to take a break and control but Kuikka is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kuikka dodges the ground and pound from van Veen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

van Veen swings around for an armbar but Kuikka sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into van Veen's guard.
Kuikka will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

and Kuikka decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in van Veen's guard.

and Kuikka counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

van Veen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
van Veen wants to stand up but Kuikka is controlling him.

van Veen has a hand on Kuikka's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Kuikka takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
van Veen manages to regain half guard. Good work.

van Veen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kuikka is working away from the top position though.
