PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between ome james (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Sefo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sefo has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. ome james has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

james closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sefo to the mat! Sefo manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

james is looking to work some ground and pound but Sefo has wrist control.

james decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
james avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sefo throws a head kick that misses.

Sefo throws a sloppy head kick and james moves out of range easily.

james closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
james keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Sefo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with james. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

james is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sefo has managed to free his arm - good work.
james thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

james is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sefo defends it well.

james stands up out of the half guard.
james shoots for a double leg takedown but Sefo sprawls well. He's pushed james's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

james closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - james lands in his opponent's guard.
james controls from within his opponent's guard.

james stands up from guard. Let's bang!

james shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. james showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

james sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sefo defending well though.
james perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
james passes to full mount!
BOOM! james connects with a massive shot to the dome!

james content to control rather than advance.
james thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sefo's head.

james is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Sefo is breathing heavily.

james working over Sefo with some ground and pound. Sefo looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
james wants to pass the guard but Sefo is defending well.
james is controlling the pace.
james's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
james will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

ome james has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
james throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sefo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

james bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

james is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sefo has escaped the position, nice work there.
A control attempt from Sefo but he's now mounted!
james controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

james working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Sefo looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by james! Submission of the night perhaps?
