Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mizuro Goenji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matheus Pettis is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mizuro Goenji!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matheus Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pettis dives in and grabs Goenji's left leg, looking for a takedown. Goenji pushes down on Pettis's head and hops out.
Pettis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pettis shoots in for a takedown but Goenji shows good takedown defense.
Mizuro Goenji has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matheus Pettis.
Goenji leaves Pettis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Goenji connects with a nice short shot to Pettis's temple.

Goenji drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pettis manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Goenji has Pettis in his guard.
Pettis wants to stand but Goenji has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Pettis passes Goenji's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Pettis is trying to work for a kimura but Goenji is defending well.
Goenji is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Pettis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Pettis's back!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Goenji's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Goenji has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Pettis has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Pettis misses with a takedown attempt

Goenji thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pettis's head.

Mizuro Goenji overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Goenji has hold of Pettis's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Pettis manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
