PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Hagen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fowwest Gump (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hagen comes into the arena with Wait and Bleed - Slipknot blaring out of the sound system. Sammy Hagen has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sammy Hagen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fowwest Gump!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hagen drops his hands momentarily and Gump takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Hagen slips a straight right by Gump.

Gump shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hagen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hagen can't do much from the bottom here.
Hagen controls the position for a moment.

Hagen sneaks out the side door and pushes Gump away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Hagen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gump.
Hagen wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Hagen is not content to let Gump control the position.
Hagen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hagen tries to escape but Gump is in control.
A lull in the action here.
Let's hope that Gump has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Gump postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Gump connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hagen some visible discomfort.
Gump wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hagen keeps working.

Hagen wants to control but Gump postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hagen is not content to let Gump control the position.
Hagen is letting Gump control him for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Fowwest Gump.
Hagen fails with the takedown

and Gump decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hagen's guard.
Gump wants to control from the top but Hagen keeps moving.
Hagen is trying to control the position but Gump postures up.
Gump really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hagen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Fowwest Gump hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Gump fails with the takedown.
Gump swats away the attempt to clinch by Hagen.
Gump throws a looping overhand right but Hagen ducks down to avoid it.

and Hagen counters with a good, hard body kick but Gump shrugs it off.
Gump fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sammy Hagen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fowwest Gump.
Gump throws a right and a left that Hagen avoids nicely.

Gump shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gump wants to control from the top but Hagen keeps moving.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hagen closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gump quickly recovers to half guard.

Gump wants to get back to his feet.
Hagen throws an elbow but Gump slips to the side and avoids it well.
Hagen is looking to take a break and control but Gump is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hagen cracks Gump with a big elbow.
Gump is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hagen asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Hagen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gump down.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hagen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hagen misses with a punch to the head.
Gump is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Hagen connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Gump to escape the position.
Gump wants to get back to his feet.
Hagen is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Hagen gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Hagen gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Hagen apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Gump must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Fowwest Gump has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

and Gump counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gump swings for the body but Hagen moves out of range.
Sammy Hagen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Gump decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Hagen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Gump is trying to control. Hagen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sammy Hagen dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Gump is looking to take a break and control but Hagen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fowwest Gump has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hagen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hagen tries to get out of the position.
Gump looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hagen regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gump.
Gump makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gump stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hagen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hagen keeping moving, preventing Gump from controlling successfully.
Hagen wants to get back to his feet but Gump is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hagen is trying to keep Gump in close.
Gump stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hagen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hagen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gump postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gump is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gump wants to control from the top but Hagen keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hagen tries to sprawl but Gump drives through with a takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gump is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hagen is trying to stand up here but Gump is controlling him well.
Gump is taking a breather. Hagen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Fowwest Gump was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Gump closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hagen is trying to escape the position but Gump is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Fowwest Gump comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gump has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
