PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Hurley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mangdu Rugas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mangdu Rugas is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josh Hurley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mangdu Rugas!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hurley throws a sloppy head kick and Rugas moves out of range easily.
Rugas throws a series of punches but Hurley avoids them all with ease.

Hurley drives through and clinches with Rugas against the cage.
Rugas is leaning against Hurley and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Rugas manages to break the clinch.
Rugas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hurley's waist but Hurley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rugas off to one side.

Rugas tries to keep at a distance but Hurley has taken the fight into the clinch.
Rugas unloads a knee to the mid-section. Hurley lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Hurley is breathing heavily.

Rugas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rugas misses with the combination.
Rugas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rugas stuffs the takedown.

and Hurley counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rugas thinking.
Sloppy strikes from Rugas. Those never looked like landing.
Hurley dodges the punch combination from Rugas.
Mangdu Rugas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hurley displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rugas.
Josh Hurley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mangdu Rugas.
Rugas fails to land with a series of punches.
Hurley tries to clinch but Rugas is having none of it.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Rugas has eaten all the pies!

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Rugas lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hurley has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hurley and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Rugas walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hurley throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Rugas misses with a wild combination.
Hurley's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Hurley duly obliges.
Rugas takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Hurley throws a series of strikes that have Rugas backpedaling.
Hurley getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Hurley shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rugas pinned against the cage. Rugas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rugas swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hurley counters with a stiff right hand.
Rugas swats away the attempt to clinch by Hurley.
Rugas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hurley is fending him off so far but Rugas persists. Nope, Hurley circles away and we're back to standing.
Rugas throws a head kick that misses.

Hurley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rugas sneaks out the side door and pushes Hurley away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Rugas moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hurley takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Some wild striking there from Hurley.
Hurley takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Rugas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Hurley counters with a nice leg kick.
Rugas avoids the body shot from Hurley.
Rugas throws a nice looking combination but Hurley bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Rugas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rugas showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hurley is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rugas scores with a couple of nice shots.

Rugas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hurley defends it well.

Rugas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Hurley is trying to control but can't.
Hurley on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Rugas wants to free his trapped foot but Hurley is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rugas lands with a punch from half guard.

Rugas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hurley works his way to full guard. Good work.

Rugas drops back looking for a leg! Hurley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hurley manages to kick Rugas off! Rugas jumps back into Hurley's guard.
Rugas keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hurley's head.
Rugas postures up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rugas drops back looking for a leg! Hurley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hurley manages to kick Rugas off! Rugas jumps back into Hurley's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rugas thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mangdu Rugas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hurley tries to clinch up but Rugas circles away and keeps his distance.
Hurley fails to land the takedown.
Rugas tries a head kick but it misses.
Rugas misses with a wild combination.
Rugas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Donk. Hurley catches Rugas right on the button with a cross.
Rugas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hurley.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rugas.
Hurley jabs at Rugas's body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hurley moves into the clinch.
Rugas has Hurley pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hurley manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hurley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Rugas drops back looking for a leg! Hurley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hurley manages to kick Rugas off! Rugas jumps back into Hurley's guard.

Rugas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hurley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hurley has escaped and now he's on top!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hurley has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Rugas to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Hurley is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Rugas pulls down on the head and he's put Hurley to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mangdu Rugas!
