PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Axel Trendon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Trendon has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Axel Trendon!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A cross from Shields lands.
Trendon looks gassed!

Shields closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Shields in side control lands a decent elbow.

Shields decides to stand back up.

Shields lands a big head kick that sends Trendon tumbling to the mat! Shields takes a step backwards and waves Trendon back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Trendon is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Shields drives through and clinches with Trendon against the cage.
Trendon is still on wobbly legs! Can Shields finish him?

Trendon is fighting off a takedown attempt but Shields is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Trendon to the mat. Trendon regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Trendon seems to have recovered his senses.
Shields not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Shields has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Shields advances position into side control!
Trendon is working to avoid the ground and pound but Shields connects with a decent elbow.

Shields is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Trendon has escaped the position, nice work there.

Shields is trying to get an arm triangle but Trendon is defending well.
Trendon takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Shields decides to stand up, so the ref orders Trendon to his feet.
Shields comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Shields gets a takedown into half guard.

Shields stands up from half guard.
Shields keeps Trendon at a distance using the push kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shields misses with a body shot.
A head kick misses from Shields.

Shields feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Shields gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

and Shields counters with a takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here.

Shields misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Shields decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Shields moves into range and clinches up with Trendon.

Shields breaks the clinch.
Shields swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Shields throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Trendon gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Shields counters by moving into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trendon goes for a takedown attempt but Shields pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Jake Shields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Axel Trendon.

Shields looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Trendon!
Trendon tries to lock up and control but Shields gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Shields takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Shields has managed to clinch.
Shields tries a knee to the head but Trendon blocks it.
Shields displaying some good clinch control by pressing Trendon up against the cage.

Shields successfully pulls guard.
Shields lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Trendon!
Shields is landing with some decent strikes but Trendon is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trendon is breathing heavily.
Shields sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Trendon in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Shields lands a big shot there that rocks Trendon but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Shields takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Shields with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Trendon takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Trendon reaches up to try and control the position but Shields seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Trendon rolls and tries to escape and now Shields has his back!

Shields scores with strikes from the back.
Shields is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Trendon can do to turn this around?
Trendon trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Shields is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Shields gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Shields gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Shields apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Shields moves into range and clinches up with Trendon.

Shields gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Shields stays in close to Trendon's body and controls the position.

Shields stands and steps away. Trendon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Shields darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Shields stands up from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Shields moves into range and clinches up with Trendon.
Shields lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Shields gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Trendon regains guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Trendon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Trendon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Trendon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shields is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shields shoots for a takedown but Trendon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Shields drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Shields advances to full mount.
Shields controlling his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shields has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Shields is working for a guillotine from mount but Trendon frees his head quite easily.
Shields in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

Shields is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Trendon is surviving well by controlling Shields's body position as best he can.

Trendon wants to control but Shields is having none of it.
Trendon is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Shields quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Shields but it's paid off an Trendon is forced to tap! Nice work by Shields.
