The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith avoids the head kick by Tabares.
Tabares looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Tabares stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tabares wants it to stay on the feet.
Tabares doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.

Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tabares keeps working.

Smith is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Smith remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Tabares bucks up and tries to throw Smith off but instead Smith has got his back!

Tabares wants to get up but he can't break Smith's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smith is on top in guard.
Tabares wants to get back to his feet but Smith is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Smith has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Tabares's face.
