The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Van Damme darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Poika looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Van Damme looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Poika with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Van Damme is keen to just control but Poika is a slippery customer.

Poika is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Van Damme pulls his head out easily.
Van Damme frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Poika tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Poika defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Van Damme.

Van Damme is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Poika can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Van Damme with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Poika tries to reverse the position but Van Damme maintains control.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Poika is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Van Damme's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Poika moves into full guard.

Poika is looking for a triangle but Van Damme pushes his legs off easily.
Poika tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Van Damme is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Poika is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Poika has escaped and now he's on top!

Van Damme escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Poika gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
