PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sebastian Granite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lasse Lock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sebastian Granite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lasse Lock!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Granite does no damage.
Lock slips a jab and a cross from Granite.
Lock keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Lock slips under a jab.
Granite thows a body shot but no joy.
Lock takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Granite throws a series of punches but Lock moves out of range.

Lock closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Granite to the mat! Granite manages to get full guard.
Lock sitting in guard here, content to control.
Granite is trying to control the position but Lock postures up.
Lock trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Lock controlling from the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lock wants to control from the top but Granite keeps moving.

Granite has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Lock is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Granite.
Lock is staying tight to Granite's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lock tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lock has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Granite keeps working.

Lock tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Granite is not content to let Lock control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lock takes a little break here. Granite wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Despite being in the dominant position, Lasse Lock just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Granite misses with a wild combination.
Granite lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Granite lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Donk. Granite catches Lock right on the button with a cross.

Lock shoots in and bounces Granite off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lock wants to control from the top but Granite keeps moving.
Lock postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Lock passes Granite's left leg - he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lasse Lock dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Granite will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lock feints and as Granite raises his hands in defense, Lock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lock stopping the sweep attempt from Granite.
Granite keeping moving, preventing Lock from controlling successfully.
Lock is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lock advances to half guard.
Lock stalling away here and it's allowed Granite to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Granite being controlled here, momentarily.
Lock pushes down on Granite's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lock is controlling the pace.
Lock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Granite keeps working.
Lock takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Despite being in the dominant position, Lasse Lock just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lock uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Granite.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Granite throws a hook but Lock blocks it.

Lock looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Lock is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Lock pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Lock jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Granite manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lock wants to control but Granite is keeping him busy.

Lock is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Granite is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lock is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Granite will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lasse Lock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Granite throws a body punch but Lock moves out of range.

Lock feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Granite working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lock doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lock manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Granite keeping moving, preventing Lock from controlling successfully.

Lock gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Lock displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Granite throws out the jab.
Lock throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Granite's waist but Granite gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lock off to one side.
Granite jabs Lock right on the nose. Lock blinks but takes it well.
Granite throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sebastian Granite seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Good exchange - Granite coming out on top.
Granite throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lock.

Left hook, right uppercut from Granite.

Lock scores with a takedown into Granite's guard.
Granite keeping moving, preventing Lock from controlling successfully.

Granite is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Lock trying to control the position from guard on top but Granite is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lasse Lock has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lock trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Granite working a defensive guard but Lock passes into half guard.
Lock trying to control from Granite's half guard. Granite has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Granite being controlled here, momentarily.
Granite is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lock trying to control the position from guard on top but Granite is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Granite looking for a triangle here. Lock is fighting it but it looks tight! Granite pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Lock is tapping out - this one is all over!
