The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pirate misses with a kick to the body.

Pirate clinches with his opponent.

Pirate pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pirate throws an overhand right that lands on Verbeek's shoulder, as Verbeek tries to avoid the shot.
Verbeek swinging wildly here.
Pirate throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pirate stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pirate wants it to stay on the feet.
Verbeek shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pirate sprawls well. Pirate wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Verbeek gets slowly back to his feet.
Pirate swinging wildly here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Verbeek scores with a takedown into Pirate's guard.

Verbeek wants to control from the top but Pirate keeps moving.
Verbeek tries to free his leg and advance position but Pirate is retaining full guard.
Verbeekis looking to pass into half guard but Pirate pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Pirate is in guard.
Pirate not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Pirate wants to stand but Verbeek is controlling his posture from full guard.
Pirate has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Verbeek pulls Pirate in to control the position.
Verbeek looking to control but Pirate passes into half guard.
Pirate wants to stand up but Verbeek is controlling the position.
Verbeek wants to get back to full guard but Pirate has mounted him!
Verbeek tries to hold on but Pirate pushes him away.

Pirate is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Pirate lands a big right hand that sends Verbeek crashing to the mat! Pirate stays standing though and waves Verbeek back to his feet!

Verbeek is rocked!
Verbeek looks gassed!
Pirate misses with an uppercut.
Verbeek fails with a takedown attempt.
Don Pirate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fred Verbeek.
Pirate defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Verbeek.

Pirate darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Verbeek is still in real trouble! Can Pirate finish him?

Pirate decides to stand up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pirate throws a hook but Verbeek avoids it easily.
Fred Verbeek seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Verbeek slips a straight right by Pirate.
Pirate lands with a right and another and another! Verbeek is in big trouble! Pirate lands again and this time it's lights out for Verbeek! A quality knockout there for Pirate.
