The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mattos moves into the clinch.
John stalling.
Mattos drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
John has Mattos pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. John pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mattos tumbling to the mat - John dives into Mattos's guard.

Mattos wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
John won't allow Mattos to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mattos not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Mattos seems keen to control John's posture.
Mattos on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mattos tries to get out of the position.
Mattos is trying to control the position but John postures up.
Mattos is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
John scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

John has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Mattos drives through and clinches with John against the cage.

John changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mattos fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Mattos closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. John did well to prevent Mattos getting side control.

John wants to improve his position but Mattos is controlling well.
Mattos landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Mattos is figuring out what he wants to do next.
John is defending against the submission attempts here by Mattos.

John is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mattos content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Mattos is taking a breather. John says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mattos's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Mattos maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! John could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Mattos has cracked it and John is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Mattos!
