PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roman Empire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ville Lumme (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lumme throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Empire tries for a takedown but Lumme sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Lumme moves into the clinch.

Lumme breaks from the clinch.
Lumme pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Empire scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Lumme misses with a takedown attempt
and Empire counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lumme thinking.
Empire tries to land a front kick but Lumme steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Lumme misses with a series of wild punches.
Empire tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lumme swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Empire throws a one two combo.

Lumme shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lumme was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Empire is looking to improve his position but Lumme isn't that keen on the idea.
Lumme cracks Empire with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Lumme lands a big shot there that rocks Empire but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Lumme looking to control but Empire is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Lumme prevents Empire from getting the reversal.
Lumme postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Empire looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Lumme cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Lumme with a couple of short strikes.
Lumme has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Empire is wriggling around trying to escape.
Empire tries to hold on but Lumme postures up.

Empire flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Empire tries to lock up and control but Lumme gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Empire is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Empire wants to control but Lumme is having none of it.
Empire is desperately trying to improve his position but Lumme has a good base and remains in mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ville Lumme dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Empire drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lumme manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Lumme has hold of Empire's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Empire manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Empire tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Lumme has control of Empire's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Empire regains control of the situation pretty easily.
