PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Developer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Piest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Paul Developer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Piest!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Developer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Developer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Developer moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Mark Piest has been cut.
Paul Developer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Piest shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Piest postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Developer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Piest, into his guard.
Developer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Piest manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Piest shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Developer as he avoids it easily.
Developer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Piest avoids it really well and circles away.
Developer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Piest tries to avoid it but Developer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Piest to the ground. Piest escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Developer scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Piest looks to land a combination. Developer sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Developer has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Piest avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Developer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Developer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Piest is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Developer is trying to drag Piest to the mat but Piest just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Developer is pressed up against the cage. Piest has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Developer down to the mat. Developer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Developer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Piest pushes Developer off and scrambles back to his feet.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Piest throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Piest has Developer pushed against the cage.
Piest digs a right hand underneath Developer's ribcage. Developer let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Developer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Piest is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Piest goes for a takedown attempt but Developer pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Piest fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Piest tries to close the distance and clinch up but Developer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Piest stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Piest wants it to stay on the feet.

Developer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Piest wants to stand but Developer is controlling the position.
Developer with a flurry of punches that miss.

Developer throwing strikes from guard but Piest blocks nicely.
Developer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

and Piest holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Developer changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Piest fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Nice takedown defense from Piest. No joy for Developer on that attempt.
Piest shoots for a takedown but Developer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Piest keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Developer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Developer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Piest shoots in for a takedown but Developer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

A close round but Mark Piest will probably get the nod.

Piest fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Developer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Piest lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Piest is pushing down on Developer's leg trying to pass to half guard. Developer is fighting to maintain full guard but Piest has managed to sneak the leg through.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Developer is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Piest has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Developer is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Piest yanks on the arm and Developer is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Piest.
