Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joao Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramirez comes to the cage accompanied by Megadeth-Trust. Alves is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Carl Orff - Carmina Burana - André Rieu's version. Alex Ramirez had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Alves!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramirez misses with a double jab.
Alves will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ramirez shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Ramirez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Alves has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ramirez is working away from the top position though.

Alves moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ramirez has worked his arm free - good work by Ramirez!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Alves missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Ramirez is looking to control Alves's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ramirez avoid being mounted?

Alves is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ramirez sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ramirez pushes Alves off looking to stand but Alves dives back in and keeps control.
Ramirez keeping hold of Alves's head, controlling as best he can.
Ramirez is trying to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Alves is trying to control. Ramirez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alves throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Joao Alves will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Ramirez cracks the inside of Alves's front leg.
Ramirez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alves was well out of range. Poor timing from Ramirez.

Ramirez throws a looping overhand right but Alves ducks down to avoid it.
Joao Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves tries for a takedown but Ramirez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Ramirez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ramirez.

Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ramirez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Alves is squirming around, avoiding Ramirez's attempts to control the action.
Alves tries to hold on but Ramirez pushes him away.

Ramirez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Alves wants to control but Ramirez is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Alves tries to reverse the position but Ramirez maintains control.
Ramirez controlling the position easily from mount.
Ramirez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ramirez wants to control the pace but Alves is squirming around nicely.

Well Ramirez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
