The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Motta walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Ali jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Motta misses with a double jab.
Motta digs a good body shot into Ali's ribs.
Motta ducks under a wild hook from Ali.
Motta lands the left hand.
Motta ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Motta takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Ali shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Ali throws a looping overhand right but Motta ducks down to avoid it.
Motta bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ali's head.
A nice combination there by Motta.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters circling - Ali throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Ali moves out of range as Motta strikes.
Motta thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ali misses with an uppercut.
Motta blocks a jab.
Motta avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Motta ducks under a wild hook from Ali.
Roger Motta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ali will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Motta keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ali pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Motta takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Motta misses with a shot to the body
and Motta takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ali throws a jab when Motta was well out of range.
Ali missing with a left hand there. Motta was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Ali uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Motta.
Ali fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Motta has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Ali takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Muhammad Ali is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ali ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ali pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ali fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Motta looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ali connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Motta moves away from the strike by Ali.
Ali throws a wild body kick that Motta sees coming a mile off.
Donk. Ali catches Motta right on the button with a cross.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Motta swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Ali counters with a crisp one two that drops Motta! Ali thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Motta to his feet! Motta is in big trouble!

Motta is rocked!
A big right from Motta misses.
Oh Motta is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ali is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Motta.
Motta seems to have got his legs back now.
Ali slips a jab from Motta.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ali. Motta does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ali uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Motta.
Motta looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ali feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Motta sprawling to the canvas! Motta rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Ali finish him?!

Ali throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

and Ali counters with a right hand to the body.

Ali misses with a shot to the body
and Motta counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Motta throws a combination that misses
letting Ali counter with a right hand.
Motta loads up on a big right hand but Ali slips the punch.

Ali misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Motta.

Ali lands a big head kick that sends Motta tumbling to the mat! Ali takes a step backwards and waves Motta back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Motta misses with a body punch
and Ali scores with a counter punch that sends Motta to the canvas! Ali smells blood - he's punishing Motta with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Motta has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
