PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rolf Adler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Makua Koa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Makua Koa is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rolf Adler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Makua Koa!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Koa shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Adler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Koa looking to control and managing it successfully.
Adler tries to hold on but Koa pushes him away.
Adler trying desperately to get to his feet.
Koa lands with some strikes.
Koa looking to control and managing it successfully.
Adler sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Koa working over Adler with some ground and pound. Adler looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Koa tries to stand but can't do so whilst Adler controls his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Koa connects with a nice short shot to Adler's temple.
Koa wants to stand up but Adler has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Adler wants to control but Koa is keeping busy.
Adler is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Koa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Adler is trying to stand up here but Koa is controlling him well.
Koa tries to pass to full mount but Adler defends it.
Adler is refusing to be controlled, as Koa sits in half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Adler tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Koa misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Adler enables Koa to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Adler manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Koa drops back, looking for a kneebar! Adler looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Adler looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Adler!
Adler grinds an elbow into Koa's temple.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Adler postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Koa is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Adler thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Koa tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Adler looking to secure an arm triangle but Koa defends it well.
Koa wants to hold on but Adler pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Koa can't escape the position.
Adler looking to control but Koa is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Adler tries to push Koa's head away but Koa is holding on tight.
Adler sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makua Koa dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Adler throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Koa's head.
Adler fails in his attempt to clinch.

Koa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Adler is looking to escape.

Koa wants to control the pace but Adler is squirming around nicely.

Adler gets back to half guard.

Koa stops Adler from getting back to his feet.
Koa looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Koa throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Koa stands up from half guard.

Koa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Koa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Koa fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Koa is landing with some decent strikes but Adler is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee warns Adler that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Koa working for a guillotine from mount but Adler is in no mood to give up.

Adler tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Koa breaks from Adler's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Koa lands a big elbow.
Koa lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Koa fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Koa wants to control the pace but Adler is squirming around nicely.
Koa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makua Koa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Adler swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Koa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Adler cracks Koa with a good jab.
Koa is trying hard to land a takedown here. Adler sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Koa tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Adler on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Adler is not content to let Koa control the position.
Koa tries to pass the half guard into mount. Adler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Adler trying to control from the bottom.
Koa thows a huge punch but Adler dodges it nicely.
Koa looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Adler with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Koa tries to pass the half guard into mount. Adler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Adler is refusing to be controlled, as Koa sits in half guard.
Koa tries to pass to full mount but Adler defends it.
Koa is keen to just control but Adler is a slippery customer.
Makua Koa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Koa with the ground and pound but Adler uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Koa trying to control but Adler is working from the bottom.
Koa throws a big right hand that misses.
Koa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Adler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Adler is working an open guard so Koa takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Adler tries to clinch up but Koa circles away and keeps his distance.
Koa looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Koa shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Koa showed some decent athleticism there.

Koa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Adler keeps working.

Koa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Koa scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Koa looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Koa slows the pace down in half guard.
Koa's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

And that's the end of the fight!
Makua Koa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Koa winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
