PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between steve austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christoph Stenner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). austin's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, shattered dreams. Stenner is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Escapado - Freiraum. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, steve austin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christoph Stenner!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stenner has taken the fight to the clinch.
austin is trying to break the clinch but Stenner has him pressed against the cage.
austin lands a right hand that snaps the head of Stenner backwards.

Stenner breaks from the clinch.
austin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
austin dives in and grabs Stenner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stenner pushes down on austin's head and hops out.
austin swats away the attempt to clinch by Stenner.

and austin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by austin.

Stenner is working an open guard so austin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

austin feints and as Stenner raises his hands in defense, austin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
austin is breathing heavily.

Stenner wriggles free and stands up.

austin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Stenner manages to get to full guard.
austin tries to stand but Stenner is controlling from the bottom.

austin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Stenner is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of austin, into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stenner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Stenner stands up from austin's guard - Stenner perhaps looking for a knockout.

Stenner darts in and clinches austin up against the cage.

Stenner manages to pull guard.
austin wanted to stand there but Stenner had control of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
austin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stenner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Stenner has a closed guard, preventing austin from standing up.

Stenner is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. austin is aware though and is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

austin stands up from Stenner's guard - austin perhaps looking for a knockout.

Stenner rushes austin and presses him up against the cage.
Stenner lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of austin backwards.
Stenner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from austin.

Stenner drags the fight down to the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

austin has gone for a leg lock! Stenner slips out almost immediately though and dives into austin's guard.
austin being controlled here, momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


austin tries for a takedown but Stenner circles away easily

and Stenner counters by clinching up.
austin has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Stenner is trying to work for a single leg takedown but austin pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Stenner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Stenner.
Stenner landing strikes.
steve austin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
austin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Stenner is controlling him well.
austin can't do much from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
austin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stenner working the head and body with strikes.
Stenner landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Stenner prevents austin from escaping the position.
Stenner trying to control the position but austin is working away.
austin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
austin taking punishment in the form of punches.
Stenner tries to move to full mount but austin actually manages to regain half guard.
austin tries to kick Stenner off but Stenner keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Stenner is trying to work for a kimura but austin is defending well.
Stenner misses with a head shot. austin uses the momentum to regain guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stenner loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Stenner postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

austin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Stenner defends well.
Stenner wants to control from the top but austin keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Stenner tries to clinch up but austin circles away and keeps his distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Stenner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. austin sprawls well initially but Stenner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
austin is trying to stand up here but Stenner is controlling him well.
Stenner is looking to stall here but austin recovers full guard.
Stenner is looking to work some ground and pound but austin has wrist control.

austin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Stenner working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of austin's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christoph Stenner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Stenner tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but austin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
austin has his takedown stuffed

and Stenner counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for austin!
Stenner lands a heavy elbow.
Stenner is landing with some decent strikes but austin is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

austin is bucking up trying to escape but Stenner cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Stenner swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and austin is now in Stenner's guard. A big mistake from Stenner there, giving up the dominant position!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stenner can do anything to dispel that myth.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
austin wants to stand and escape but instead Stenner has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

austin is looking for a triangle but Stenner pushes his legs off easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stenner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Stenner trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Stenner wants to control from the top but austin keeps moving.
Stenner is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stenner postures up and lands a big shot to austin's brow.
Stenner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Stenner trying to control the position from guard on top but austin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Stenner got a little sloppy there for a moment and austin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stenner has managed to get both his arms back between austin's legs - danger averted.
austin wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Stenner manages to pass to side control.

Stenner stands up and beckons austin to join him on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stenner misses with a takedown

and austin counters with a shoot takedown. Stenner fights it but they end up in guard.
austin passes easily into side control. Nice work.

austin decides to stand back up.
austin has a takedown stuffed.

Stenner darts in and clinches austin up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stenner lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Stenner keeps the fight in the clinch, despite austin's efforts to push away.

Stenner turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stenner gets in close and instigates a clinch.
austin tries to score a body lock takedown but Stenner shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for steve austin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stenner is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. austin can't fight it off and eventually Stenner manages to take the fight to the floor. austin looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

austin pushes Stenner off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Christoph Stenner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Stenner has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
