PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Poopdeck PJ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Soza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soza is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Sponge Bob Theme Song. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Poopdeck PJ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Soza!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soza tries to clinch there but PJ circles away.
PJ finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Soza wants to clinch.
Horrible takedown by PJ or perhaps it was just good defense by Soza which made him look bad.
Soza misses with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
PJ scores with a shot to the body.

Soza walks into a stiff left hand from PJ.
PJ throws a hook to the side of Soza's head but Soza sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Soza blocks a jab.
Soza is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
PJ motions for Soza to come forward. PJ throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Soza tries to clinch there but PJ circles away.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Soza, right into the meat.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Soza tries to clinch but PJ is having none of it.
Soza has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from PJ finds it's way round the side to connect with Soza's head.
PJ throws a hook but Soza avoids it easily.
PJ scores with a jab to the jaw.
Soza tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
PJ swats away the attempt to clinch by Soza.
PJ keeps the fight on the outside.

Soza tries to close the distance and clinch but PJ swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
PJ throws a big shot that misses.
Soza checks a leg kick.
PJ shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Soza defends it nicely.
Soza tries to clinch up but PJ circles away and keeps his distance.
Soza throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
PJ scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Bob Soza is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Soza tries to clinch there but PJ circles away.
PJ circles away from the clinch attempt.
PJ swats away the attempt to clinch by Soza.
Soza doesn't manage to clinch there - PJ circles away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
PJ takes a kick to the side of the head.
Soza takes a swing at PJ's ribcage but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Soza uses good head movement to avoid the hook from PJ.
Soza lunges at PJ with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by PJ's hand.
A nice inside leg kick there by Soza. That's going to slow PJ down.
Soza swings for the body but PJ moves out of range.
Some bone on bone action there as Soza checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Soza misses with a low kick.

PJ looks to land a right hand but Soza moved out of range.

Soza tries to close the distance and clinch but PJ swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Soza wants to clinch.
Soza tries to close the distance and clinch up but PJ swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Soza ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
PJ avoids the head kick by Soza.
Soza moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
PJ keeps the fight on the outside.
PJ throws a hook to the side of Soza's head but Soza sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Bob Soza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
PJ throws a jab but it's blocked by Soza.
PJ throws out a loose jab but Soza uses good head movement to avoid it.
PJ scores with a jab to the jaw.
Soza tries to clinch there but PJ circles away.
Soza misses with a head kick.
PJ looks to throw the jab but Soza is out of range.

Soza tries to clinch there but PJ circles away.
PJ pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Soza misses with a jab to the body
and PJ counters with a nice uppercut.
PJ lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Soza takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Soza darts in trying to clinch
and PJ counters with a stiff right hand.
PJ thuds his right hand into Soza's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
PJ misses with an uppercut.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Soza moves away from the strike by PJ.
Soza darts in trying to clinch
and PJ counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Poopdeck PJ dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



PJ drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
PJ misses with the ground and pound.
PJ takes a little break here. Soza wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

PJ seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Soza for as long as he can get away with.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Poopdeck PJ.
A big right from PJ misses.
A decent looking cross lands there for PJ.
Soza tries to clinch but PJ moves away
and PJ counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Soza wants to clinch
letting PJ counter with a right hand.
PJ shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Soza throws a right and a left that PJ avoids nicely.
PJ throws a series of punches but Soza avoids them all with ease.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Soza scores with a head kick.
PJ dives in and grabs Soza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Soza pushes down on PJ's head and hops out.
Poopdeck PJ is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

and PJ counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Soza thinking.

and PJ counters with a nice double leg into side control. Soza won't be happy with that.
Soza seems a little lost for a moment, as PJ dominates the positioning.
Bob Soza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Poopdeck PJ showed his dominance in that final round.
Well PJ has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
