Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Hood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shogun Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gordon Hood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shogun Silva!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hood fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Silva misses the jab.
Silva throws a wild body kick that Hood sees coming a mile off.
Hood ducks under a wild hook from Silva.
Hood thuds a left hand into Silva's body.
Hood misses with a takedown attempt - Silva sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
An inside leg kick lands from Silva.

Hood decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hood thows a huge punch but Silva dodges it nicely.
Hood is pressing down on Silva's thigh, looking to free his foot. Silva is holding on for now.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Silva can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hood has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Hood thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Silva's head.
Silva gets back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hood throws a strike but Silva rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Hood has his feet on Silva's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Hood pushes Silva off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Silva tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hood looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Silva is fending him off so far but Hood persists. Nope, Silva circles away and we're back to standing.

Hood closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Silva controlling the position for now.
Hood is looking to stall here but Silva recovers full guard.

Hood stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hood looking to sit in guard and control but Silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Silva controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hood pushes Silva off and gets back to his feet.
Silva throws a looping overhand right but Hood ducks down to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Silva takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Gordon Hood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hood tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Silva swivels and escapes.
Silva takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Silva lands with a kick to the temple. Hood shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Silva scores with a nice strike.
Silva takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Hood to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Hood checks a leg kick.
Hood shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Silva as he avoids it easily.
Silva throws a leg kick but Hood moved away.
A chopping leg kick lands by Hood.
Silva lands a leg kick that knocks Hood off balance momentarily.
Silva lunges at Hood with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hood's hand.
Hood lands with a good body shot.
A lazy left from Silva finds it's target.
Hood changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Hood manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A nice leg kick lands there from Silva.
No joy there for Hood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Shogun Silva seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Silva lands a nice looking kick to the body. Hood takes a step back to recover.

Hood closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Silva lands with a hook. Hood tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Crunch! Silva slams his shin into Hood's torso.
Silva scores with the left hand. Hood knows he should have avoided that one.
Hood takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Silva's corner calls for a 1-2. Silva obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Hood walks straight into a right hand from Silva - that's dropped him! Silva jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Hood from any more punishment! Hood complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
