The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Szmyd displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sousa throws out the jab.
Szmyd misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sousa fails with a takedown attempt.
Szmyd cracks the inside of Sousa's front leg.
Szmyd throws a series of strikes that have Sousa backpedaling.

It looks like Damien Sousa has been cut.
Szmyd moves in looking to clinch but Sousa pushes him off.

Oooh a lovely combination from Szmyd sends Sousa down but not out. Szmyd dives into side control looking to finish.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sousa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Szmyd wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Szmyd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Szmyd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Szmyd content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Sousa seems to have got his legs back now.
Szmyd misses with the ground and pound.
Sousa throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Szmyd got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sousa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Szmyd has managed to get both his arms back between Sousa's legs - danger averted.
Szmyd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sousa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Maciej Szmyd has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Szmyd throws a sloppy head kick and Sousa moves out of range easily.

Sousa tries to score a power double leg takedown but Szmyd sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sousa somewhat.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sousa looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Szmyd is fending him off so far but Sousa persists. Nope, Szmyd circles away and we're back to standing.

Sousa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sousa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sousa swings around for an armbar but Szmyd sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sousa's guard.
