PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Fontana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Meeoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Fontana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Meeoff!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Bruno Lombardi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Fontana misses its intended target.
Fontana punishes Meeoff's body with a nice straight punch.

Fontana closes the distance and clinches.
Meeoff using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Fontana has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Meeoff jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fontana walks away with a smile on his face. Meeoff gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Meeoff changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fontana looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Fontana tries to improve position but can't.
Check out the look on Meeoff's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Meeoff thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Fontana throws Meeoff to one side and escapes!
Meeoff stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Fontana wants to clinch.

Fontana pushes Meeoff up against the cage in a clinch.
Fontana on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Meeoff pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Meeoff pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Meeoff on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Fontana lands a nice shot that snaps Meeoff's head back.
Meeoff takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Meeoff throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fontana's waist but Fontana gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meeoff off to one side.

Fontana throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Meeoff on the side of the head.
Meeoff tries to clinch but Fontana is having none of it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Meeoff.

Meeoff needs to keep his hands up - Fontana had a free shot at his head there.

Meeoff slips a jab and a cross from Fontana.
Meeoff throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Fontana.
Fontana just misses with a punch to the body.
Meeoff will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Meeoff doesn't manage to clinch there - Fontana circles away.
Fontana leaves Meeoff with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Fontana breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fontana misses with a jab, cross combination.
A head kick misses from Meeoff.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fontana rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Meeoff moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

A punch lands to the side of Meeoff 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Fontana tries to bum rush Meeoff with a series of wild strikes but Meeoff uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Fontana tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Meeoff was well out of range. Poor timing from Fontana.

Meeoff misses with a combination
and Fontana counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Jack Fontana is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Fontana throws a wild body kick that Meeoff sees coming a mile off.
Fontana looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Nice uppercut lands for Fontana. That snapped Meeoff's head back.
Fontana thumps Meeoff with a low kick.
Meeoff throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fontana's waist but Fontana gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meeoff off to one side.

Meeoff fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fontana sprawls well initially but Meeoff persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fontana wants to control but Meeoff is keeping busy.
Fontana wants to get back to his feet.

Meeoff looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Meeoff lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Meeoff winds up and cracks Fontana with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fontana regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Meeoff.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Meeoff lands a left and a right that send Fontana crashing to the mat, dazed. Meeoff thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Fontana is rocked!

Oh Fontana is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fontana thows a left - swing and a miss!

Meeoff throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Fontana tumbling to the canvas!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Meeoff has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Meeoff is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fontana is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fontana has escaped and now he's on top!
Fontana seems to have got his legs back now.
Meeoff bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Fontana's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Meeoff drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fontana manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Meeoff has Fontana in his guard.

Meeoff wants to stand and escape but Fontana is having none of it.

Fontana is sitting in close to Meeoff's body. Meeoff has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Fontana is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Fontana is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Meeoff.
