PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sheamus O Sheannessy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wesly Correa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wesly Correa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sheamus O Sheannessy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wesly Correa!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Sheannessy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
O Sheannessy slips a straight right by Correa.
Correa throws a looping overhand right but O Sheannessy ducks down to avoid it.
Correa throws a series of punches but O Sheannessy avoids them all with ease.
O Sheannessy lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
O Sheannessy misses with a wild combination.
O Sheannessy thows a body shot but no joy.
O Sheannessy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The crowd cheers as Correa lands an impressive looking overhand right. O Sheannessy doesn't seem phased though.
Correa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
O Sheannessy throws a nice inside leg kick.
Correa walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A low kick from Correa misses
letting O Sheannessy counter with a right hand.
O Sheannessy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
O Sheannessy fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Correa looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Correa feints and as O Sheannessy raises his hands in defense, Correa changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Correa controls from within his opponent's guard.
O Sheannessy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Correa on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Correa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Correa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Correa forces his way into half guard.
Correa content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
I looks like Correa might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Correa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Correa decides to stand and escape the position.
Correa tries a head kick but it misses.
O Sheannessy swings for the body but Correa moves out of range.
Correa on the wrong end of a nice hook.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
O Sheannessy throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
O Sheannessy avoids the head kick by Correa.
Correa darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Correa is looking to clinch.
O Sheannessy lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
O Sheannessy cracks Correa with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
O Sheannessy looks to land a body kick but Correa moved away.
A right-left combo lands from O Sheannessy.
O Sheannessy is breathing heavily.
O Sheannessy looks to score with a jab to the body but Correa is just out of range.

O Sheannessy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Correa to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Correa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Correa gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Correa has managed to clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Correa manages to break the clinch.

Correa moves into the clinch successfully.

Correa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Correa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Correa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
O Sheannessy taking shots to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wesly Correa dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Excellent takedown into side control there by Correa.
Correa moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Correa's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Correa has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for O Sheannessy!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee warns O Sheannessy that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Correa tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Correa pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Correa content just to control the position here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Wesly Correa.
Correa looks to land a body kick but O Sheannessy moved away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wesly Correa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


O Sheannessy misses with a straight left.
O Sheannessy thows a body shot but no joy.

Correa bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops O Sheannessy! He dives into his guard looking to finish!


It looks like Sheamus O Sheannessy has been cut.
Correa sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Correa scoring with punches to the head and body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Correa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Correa cracks O Sheannessy with a solid left hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Correa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Correa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sheamus O Sheannessy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Wesly Correa.
Correa fails to land the takedown.
Correa looks for the body kick but O Sheannessy saw that one coming.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Correa shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. O Sheannessy defends it nicely.

Correa scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Correa lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Correa working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Correa is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down O Sheannessy's shoulder. That is not cool.
Wesly Correa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Correa tries for a kimura but O Sheannessy is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
O Sheannessy is being controlled here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wesly Correa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Correa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
