PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ringo Dentalplan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Sozin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ringo Dentalplan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robert Sozin!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sozin has Dentalplan up against the cage in a clinch.
Dentalplan looking to slow down the pace here.

Dentalplan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sozin scores with a kick to the midsection.
Dentalplan is breathing heavily.

Sozin gets a clinch.
Sozin is trying to break the clinch but Dentalplan has him pressed against the cage.

Sozin wants the takedown. Dentalplan is fighting it off but Sozin persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dentalplan's guard against the cage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sozin controlling from the top position.

Sozin stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Sozin throws a sloppy head kick and Dentalplan moves out of range easily.
Sozin throws a leg kick which misses Dentalplan's front leg but catches the back leg as Dentalplan tries to avoid it.

Sozin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dentalplan is being controlled here.

Sozin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dentalplan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Sozin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Dentalplan, who protects the arm well.
Sozin moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sozin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Sozin decides to stand back up. Sozin steps back and let's Dentalplan get back to his feet.
Sozin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dentalplan swivels and escapes.
Sozin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Sozin has managed to clinch.

Sozin gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Sozin postures up in Dentalplan's guard and throws a big left but Dentalplan blocks it.

Sozin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dentalplan's half guard.

Dentalplan pushes Sozin off and gets back to his feet.

Sozin closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dentalplan did well to prevent Sozin getting side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sozin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Dentalplan has managed to free his arm - good work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sozin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Sozin dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Sozin gets the takedown into side control.

Sozin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sozin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Robert Sozin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sozin has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sozin is working for a guillotine from mount but Dentalplan frees his head quite easily.

Sozin with shots to the head and body - Dentalplan looks very uncomfortable down there.

Dentalplan wants to control but Sozin is having none of it.

Dentalplan is wriggling around trying to escape.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sozin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sozin jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Dentalplan manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Sozin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Sozin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Dentalplan shoots in for a takedown but Sozin shows good takedown defense.
Sozin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dentalplan pinned against the cage. Dentalplan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Ringo Dentalplan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sozin avoids the head kick by Dentalplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sozin wants to clinch up but Dentalplan keeps it at a distance.
Sozin swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Dentalplan.

Sozin closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Dentalplan did well to prevent Sozin getting side control.

Sozin throwing shots but Dentalplan is blocking nicely.
Dentalplan is looking to improve his position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sozin is pressing down on Dentalplan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dentalplan is holding on for now.
Sozin is controlling the pace.
Sozin passes to side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Robert Sozin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sozin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
