PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pieru Haisee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keppi Kullervo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Pieru Haisee had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pieru Haisee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Keppi Kullervo!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kullervo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Haisee swivels and escapes.
Kullervo looks gassed!
Haisee thuds his right hand into Kullervo's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
The fighters circle momentarily. Haisee darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


Kullervo is rocked!
Kullervo staying out of range there.
Haisee throws a right and a left that Kullervo avoids nicely.
Haisee waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kullervo.
Haisee throws a combination. Kullervo tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Kullervo is still on wobbly legs! Can Haisee finish him?
Haisee throws a nice looking combination but Kullervo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Pieru Haisee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Haisee misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kullervo.
Kullervo seems to have recovered his senses.
Haisee lands a really nice looking cross but Kullervo seems unphased.

Haisee throws a hook to the side of Kullervo's head but Kullervo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nice uppercut lands for Haisee. That snapped Kullervo's head back.
Haisee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Haisee rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kullervo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kullervo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Haisee takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Haisee looks to land a combination but Kullervo avoids it well.

Kullervo has managed to clinch.

Kullervo drags the fight down to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kullervo pulls Haisee in to control the position.

Kullervo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Haisee defends well.
Kullervo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Haisee might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kullervo has his hands on Haisee's head, controlling the position.
Haisee is looking to stand up but Kullervo won't let him.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Keppi Kullervo.
Kullervo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Pieru Haisee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Keppi Kullervo.
Kullervo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Haisee swivels and escapes.
Haisee cracks Kullervo with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Kullervo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Haisee fails to land with a series of punches.
Kullervo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Haisee avoids it really well and circles away.
Kullervo slips a jab and a cross from Haisee.
A combination from Haisee does no damage.
Haisee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kullervo.
Kullervo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kullervo shoots for a double leg takedown but Haisee sprawls well. He's pushed Kullervo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kullervo fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Kullervo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Haisee throws a jab but it's blocked by Kullervo.
Haisee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Haisee is looking to escape.
Haisee wants to stand back up but Kullervo manages to pass into side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kullervo advances nicely into full mount.
Kullervo cracks Haisee with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Kullervo lands a big shot there that rocks Haisee but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kullervo thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Haisee trying desperately to get to his feet.
Kullervo trying to control but Haisee is having none of it.
Kullervo unloads with some shots from mount but Haisee bucks and avoids them well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kullervo looking to control but Haisee is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keppi Kullervo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Haisee's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Haisee leaves Kullervo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Haisee throws an overhand right that lands on Kullervo's shoulder, as Kullervo tries to avoid the shot.

Kullervo lands a nice looking body kick.
Haisee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
No joy there for Haisee, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kullervo dodges the punch combination from Haisee.
Kullervo fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Haisee throws a shot from downtown. Kullervo moves away and avoids it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kullervo gets the takedown into side control.
Kullervo controls the position from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Haisee is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kullervo asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Kullervo wants to control but Haisee is keeping him busy.

Kullervo decides to take the fight back to the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Haisee gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kullervo.
Haisee lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Haisee is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Haisee looks to land a combination but Kullervo avoids it well.
Haisee misses with the combination.
Haisee throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Pieru Haisee is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kullervo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Haisee as he avoids it easily.
Pieru Haisee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Keppi Kullervo.
Haisee wants to clinch

and Kullervo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Haisee!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kullervo cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Kullervo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Haisee is looking to escape.
Kullervo controlling the pace for now.

Kullervo trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Kullervo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Haisee because Kullervo loaded up on that one.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Haisee trying desperately to get to his feet.
Kullervo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Kullervo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Haisee looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

And that's the end of the fight!
Keppi Kullervo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kullervo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
