PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Diego Franco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romeo DeAngelo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Franco comes to the cage accompanied by The Animals - House of the Rising Sun. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romeo DeAngelo!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeAngelo throws a nice looking combination but Franco bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Franco shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Franco is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Franco drops back looking for a leg! DeAngelo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and DeAngelo manages to kick Franco off! Franco jumps back into DeAngelo's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Franco has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Franco is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so DeAngelo is just riding it out for now. Franco eventually gives up the hold.

DeAngelo fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
DeAngelo throws a series of punches but Franco avoids them all with ease.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Romeo DeAngelo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

DeAngelo misses with a few strikes there.

Franco drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
DeAngelo struggling a bit here.

Franco looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
DeAngelo is not content to let Franco control the position.

Franco tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Franco has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Franco creates some space and throws a big elbow, but DeAngelo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DeAngelo avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Franco.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Franco goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, DeAngelo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Franco but great work by DeAngelo.
DeAngelo tries to advance to mount but Franco denies him.
Franco sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Franco is looking to control DeAngelo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Franco avoid being mounted?
Franco is looking for a sweep. DeAngelo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Franco wants to control but DeAngelo is keeping busy.
DeAngelo is keen to just control but Franco is a slippery customer.
Franco gets full guard.
Diego Franco overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Franco is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Franco looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Franco working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. DeAngelo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. DeAngelo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

DeAngelo stops Franco from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
DeAngelo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Franco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Franco lands a heavy elbow.

Franco has hold of DeAngelo's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and DeAngelo manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Franco is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

DeAngelo throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Franco counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Franco controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

DeAngelo is working an open guard so Franco takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
DeAngelo smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
DeAngelo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Franco looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Romeo DeAngelo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Franco prevents DeAngelo from improving his position.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Franco, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
