PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dewayne Wayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mohammed Pacquiao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wayne comes into the arena with Eye of the Tiger blaring out of the sound system. Dewayne Wayne could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Mohammed Pacquiao's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dewayne Wayne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mohammed Pacquiao!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pacquiao looks for a takedown but Wayne sprawls well.
Pacquiao shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wayne pinned against the cage. Wayne gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wayne misses with a takedown

and Pacquiao decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Wayne's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wayne is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Wayne keeping moving, preventing Pacquiao from controlling successfully.
Pacquiao is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Wayne is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Pacquiao wants a takedown.
Dewayne Wayne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mohammed Pacquiao.

Wayne breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Wayne swings for the body but Pacquiao moves out of range.

and Pacquiao counters by moving into the clinch.

Wayne's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wayne fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pacquiao pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Pacquiao clinches up with Wayne and pushes him back against the cage.

Pacquiao breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pacquiao misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pacquiao lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wayne darts in trying to clinch

and Pacquiao counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Wayne wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Pacquiao has him pressed against the cage.
Wayne jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pacquiao walks away with a smile on his face. Wayne gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mohammed Pacquiao seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wayne displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pacquiao.
Wayne moves out of range of the body kick.
Wayne throws a nice head kick!
Wayne tries to clinch up.
Pacquiao tries a low kick but Wayne avoids it.

Wayne throws a one two combo.


Pacquiao is rocked!
Pacquiao takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Pacquiao is still on wobbly legs! Can Wayne finish him?
Pacquiao circles away from the clinch attempt.

Wayne closes the distance and pushes Pacquiao back into the cage.
Pacquiao seems to have recovered his senses.
Pacquiao is trying to drag Wayne to the mat but Wayne just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Wayne tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Wayne breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wayne throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Pacquiao moves into the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wayne fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Pacquiao looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Wayne breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wayne tries to close the distance and clinch but Pacquiao swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dewayne Wayne will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Wayne manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pacquiao manages to get himself to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pacquiao can do anything to dispel that myth.

Wayne will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Wayne is keen to just control but Pacquiao is a slippery customer.
Pacquiao is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wayne wants to take a breather but Pacquiao is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pacquiao has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wayne can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dewayne Wayne will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Wayne tries to clinch but Pacquiao moves away

and Pacquiao counters with a shoot takedown. Wayne fights it but they end up in guard.

Wayne is pulling down on Pacquiao's head to control his posture.
Wayne has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wayne fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Pacquiao bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wayne tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pacquiao wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Pacquiao tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wayne can't do much from the bottom here.

Wayne manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Wayne works his way to full guard. Good work.

Pacquiao wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Wayne's closed guard. He's half up but Wayne has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Wayne pivots and extends the arm, Pacquiao falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Wayne! Well done that man!
