PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zhenya Morozov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikola Zrinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zhenya Morozov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikola Zrinski!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morozov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zrinski sprawls well. Zrinski wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Morozov gets slowly back to his feet.

Zrinski tries to keep at a distance but Morozov has taken the fight into the clinch.

Zrinski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Morozov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Zrinski.

and Morozov counters with a takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here as Morozov stalls from top position.

Morozov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zrinski for as long as he can get away with.
Morozov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Morozov stands up and beckons Zrinski to his feet.
Zrinski misses with a body kick.
Morozov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Zrinski's waist but Zrinski gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Morozov off to one side.
Zrinski fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Morozov looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Zrinski!

Morozov landing strikes from the mount and Zrinski is in trouble!

Morozov is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Zrinski fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Morozov avoids it really well and circles away.
Zhenya Morozov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikola Zrinski.

Zrinski leaves Morozov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Horrible takedown by Morozov or perhaps it was just good defense by Zrinski which made him look bad.

and Morozov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Zrinski's guard now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Zrinski is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Zrinski tries to break the clinch but Morozov is controlling the position.
Zrinski tries to pull guard but Morozov won't allow it.
Morozov scores a nice knee to the body.
Morozov stalling.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Morozov for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Morozov keeps control of Zrinski as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Zrinski pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Morozov throws a head kick that misses.
Morozov is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Morozov has his takedown stuffed

and Zrinski counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Zrinski.
Zrinski tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Morozov lands an elbow just above Zrinski 's eye.

Morozov pulls Zrinski into guard.
Zrinski wants to get up but he can't break Morozov's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Morozov manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Morozov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Zrinski tries to get to full guard but Morozov has control of the leg.
Zrinski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Morozov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Zrinski wants to get back to his feet.
Morozov performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Morozov stops Zrinski from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zhenya Morozov dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Morozov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Zrinski has momentary wrist control but Morozov slips an elbow through the middle.

Morozov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Morozov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Morozov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zrinski is keeping the position for now.
Morozov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Zhenya Morozov.

and Morozov counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Morozov really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Morozov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Morozov postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Morozov advances position into side control!
Morozov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Zhenya Morozov.
Morozov wants to clinch.
Morozov fails with the takedown
and Zrinski counters with a nice body kick.
Morozov pulls out of a head kick attempt.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Zrinski wants to clinch.
Morozov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Morozov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zrinski but Zrinski pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A head kick misses from Zrinski.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zrinski throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Nikola Zrinski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Zrinski can't keep his opponent in guard - Morozov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Zrinski tries a head kick but it misses.

Morozov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Morozov showed some decent athleticism there.

Morozov postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Zrinski to stand up.
Nice takedown defense from Zrinski. No joy for Morozov on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zhenya Morozov. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Morozov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Zrinski with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Morozov is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Zrinski is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Zhenya Morozov!
