The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn moves away from the strike by Ricketts.
Penn tries to land a front kick but Ricketts steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
BJ Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ricketts lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Penn backs up against the cage.

It looks like BJ Penn has been cut.
Ricketts throws a nice looking combination but Penn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ricketts thows a body shot but no joy.
A head kick misses from Penn.
Penn walks into a left hand.
Ricketts with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Penn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ricketts swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Penn throws a head kick but Ricketts moves out of range.
Ricketts ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Penn moves away.
Ricketts is looking to slow Penn down with leg kicks.
Ricketts stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ricketts wants it to stay on the feet.
Penn needs to keep his hands up - Ricketts had a free shot at his head there.
Penn doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Penn is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Penn tries to land a front kick but Ricketts steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Penn throws the kick towards the body but Ricketts avoids it.
Ricketts slaps away a takedown attempt from Penn, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ricketts smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Penn is rocked!
Ricketts darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Penn's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Ricketts before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.
