PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frodo Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Campbell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Campbell's choice of entrance music: We are the Champions. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frodo Baggins!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jonathan Campbell!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baggins shoots for a double leg takedown but Campbell sprawls well. He's pushed Baggins's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Campbell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Campbell throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Baggins decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Baggins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Campbell is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Campbell works the jab nicely.
Baggins has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frodo Baggins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Campbell connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Baggins throws a right and a left that both miss.

Baggins drives through with a takedown into guard.
Baggins postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Campbell lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Baggins!

Campbell looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Baggins is desperately trying to improve his position but Campbell has a good base and remains in mount.

Campbell moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Baggins has worked his arm free - good work by Baggins!
Campbell looks gassed!
Baggins sneaks back into half guard.
Baggins wants to get back to full guard.
Baggins works his way to full guard. Good work.
Campbell with a flurry of punches that miss.
Campbell postures up in Baggins's guard and throws a big left but Baggins blocks it.
Baggins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Baggins wants to work for an arm triangle but Campbell is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Baggins looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Campbell with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Baggins is looking for a kimura here.
Campbell wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Baggins works his foot free and advances to mount.
Campbell is in a horrible position here. Baggins smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Baggins is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Campbell can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Baggins swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Campbell is now in Baggins's guard. A big mistake from Baggins there, giving up the dominant position!

Baggins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Campbell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Campbell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Baggins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Baggins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Baggins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Baggins passes to full mount!

The referee warns Campbell that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Baggins is landing with some decent strikes but Campbell is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Campbell keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Baggins working for a submission but Campbell is keeping him at bay.

Baggins swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frodo Baggins!
