PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Norris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Mewett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Norris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Mewett!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Norris has a takedown stuffed.

Norris decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mewett trying to control here.
Mewett tries to get to full guard but Norris has control of the leg.
Mewett wants to control but Norris passes into side.
Norris wants to control but Mewett is keeping him busy.
Mewett is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mewett is trying to get back to half guard.
Norris will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Norris pushes Mewett up against the cage in a clinch.
Norris lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Mewett or not.
Norris jumps guard but Mewett stands there with Norris around his waist. Norris gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Norris jumps guard and drags Mewett to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Norris is trying to keep Mewett in close.
Norris is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mewett is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mewett trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mewett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mewett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Norris seems keen to control Mewett's posture.

Mewett stands and steps away. Norris gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Mewett has closed the distance and engaged Norris in a clinch.
Norris scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Norris jumps into guard, dragging Mewett to the mat.
Mewett with a flurry of punches that miss.
Norris is trying to control the position but Mewett postures up.
Mewett prevents Norris from getting back to his feet.

Norris is looking to sweep but instead, Mewett has passed into half guard.
Norris tries to get to full guard but Mewett has control of the leg.
Mewett is trying to control the action in half guard but Norris is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Norris is trying to get back to full guard.
Mewett wants to take a breather but Norris is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mewett tries to clinch there but Norris circles away.

and Norris counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mewett won't be happy with that.
Mewett is trying to control Norris's posture but Norris avoids it.

Norris wants to control but Mewett is keeping him busy.

Mewett is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Norris is staying active.
Mewett is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Norris's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mewett regains full guard. Nicely done.
Norris content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mewett tries to clinch up.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Norris!

Norris fails to pull guard.

Norris pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mewett shoots in and bounces Norris off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mewett is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mewett trying to control the position from guard on top but Norris is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Norris working a defensive guard but Mewett manages to pass into side control anyway.

Norris gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Mewett jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Norris is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Norris and Mewett has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Norris wants to get back to his feet but Mewett is dominant here and he's now got Norris's back!

Norris rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Mewett is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Norris has managed to free his arm - good work.
Mewett is breathing heavily.

Mewett throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Norris wants to control but Mewett is keeping busy.

It looks like Jake Mewett has been cut.

Mewett doesn't manage to clinch there - Norris circles away.
Norris tries to clinch but Mewett moves out of range.
Norris shoots in but no luck this time.
Mewett scores with a jab to the head.

Mewett gets a clinch.
Mewett jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Norris walks away with a smile on his face. Mewett gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Mewett closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Norris did well to prevent Mewett getting side control.

Jake Mewett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Norris breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mewett digs a good hook to Norris's body.
Norris gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Mewett counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Mewett postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Norris is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mewett, into his guard.

Mewett keeping moving, preventing Norris from controlling successfully.
Mewett looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Norris puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Norris works his foot free and advances to mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Norris is landing with some decent strikes but Mewett is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chuck Norris.
I think Norris has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
