Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, PJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Lytle!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Penn advances to half guard.
Penn content to control rather than advance.
Penn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lytle does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lytle taking some punishment here, with Penn in his half guard.
Penn trying to pass the guard but Lytle defending well.
Lytle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Lytle has hold of Penn's hands but Penn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Penn works his foot free and advances to mount.
Lytle is working to get back to half guard.
Penn fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!


It looks like Chris Lytle has been cut.
Penn prevents Lytle from getting the reversal.
Penn looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Lytle takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Penn landing strikes, looking to finish!
Penn fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
A nice elbow there by Penn.
Penn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Lytle takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Penn tries to control but Lytle wriggling away.
Penn is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lytle can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Lytle tries to hold on but Penn postures up.

Penn is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Lytle can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Penn tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Lytle tries to reverse the position but Penn maintains control.

Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lytle is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Lytle is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Penn looking to finish Lytle with some ground and pound. This is bad for Lytle!


That has opened up Chris Lytle's cut even more.

The cut above Chris Lytle's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Lytle is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Penn locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Lytle is forced to tap!
