PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between sam miguel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bert Ernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, sam miguel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Bert Ernie!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
miguel wants to clinch.

miguel clinches with his opponent.

miguel drags the fight down to the ground.
Ernie looking to pass the guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ernie lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Ernie wants to pass the guard but miguel is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
miguel wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Ernie works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Ernie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ernie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and miguel defends it well.

Ernie is working for a submission of some sort.
Ernie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
miguel wants to improve his position but Ernie is controlling well.
miguel is trying to control but can't.
miguel is looking to improve his position.

Ernie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ernie is working for a submission of some sort.

Ernie seems to be working for a kimura but miguel defends the submission attempt.

miguel wants to control but Ernie is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ernie looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Ernie is trying to work for a kimura but miguel is defending well.

miguel preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ernie is looking to take a break and control but miguel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
miguel tries to kick Ernie off but Ernie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Ernie is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, miguel has managed to free his arm - good work.
miguel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ernie prevents miguel from standing back up.

Ernie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. miguel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ernie.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bert Ernie dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


miguel tries to clinch there but Ernie circles away.
Ernie shoots in but miguel avoids the takedown attempt easily.
miguel tries to clinch but Ernie moves out of range.
Ernie wants to clinch.
Ernie misses with a takedown attempt - miguel sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
miguel stuffs the takedown.
sam miguel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bert Ernie.
Ernie defends well against a solid takedown attempt from miguel.

miguel is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ernie's half guard.

miguel gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
sam miguel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
miguel tries to clinch up but Ernie circles away and keeps his distance.
miguel is looking to clinch but Ernie is avoiding it.

Ernie has managed to clinch.
miguel stalling.
miguel tries for a takedown but Ernie manages to get underhooks.

miguel manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown by miguel or perhaps it was just good defense by Ernie which made him look bad.

miguel clinches with his opponent.
Ernie blocks a body shot from miguel.

miguel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ernie looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for miguel!
miguel is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Ernie has hold of miguel's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and miguel manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Ernie has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of miguel's face.
Ernie thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Ernie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. miguel can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

miguel defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ernie.

Ernie get's back to his feet.
miguel closes the distance but Ernie moves to the side

and Ernie counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ernie.
miguel is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ernie postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bert Ernie has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ernie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. miguel is keeping the position for now.

Ernie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! miguel is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ernie, into his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ernie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and miguel defends well.
miguel is in close to Ernie's body, working some short punches and elbows.
miguel tries to stand but Ernie is controlling from the bottom.
miguel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
miguel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
miguel is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ernie can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ernie looking for a guillotine here but miguel defends easily.

Ernie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. miguel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bert Ernie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! miguel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Ernie fails with the takedown

and miguel counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ernie!
miguel lands a nice shot to the head.

Ernie tries to get back to half guard but can't.
miguel is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ernie can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ernie tries for a takedown but miguel manages to get underhooks.

miguel ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. miguel no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Ernie wants to control from the top but miguel keeps moving.
Ernie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. miguel swivels though and keeps the full guard.

miguel might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

miguel wants to get back to full guard but Ernie has passed into side control.

Ernie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But miguel has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from miguel!

miguel is desperately trying to improve his position but Ernie has a good base and remains in mount.

Ernie thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to sam miguel.
I think Ernie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
