PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jester Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Markus Essex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Head has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Jester Head looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jester Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Markus Essex!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Head looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Essex really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Head. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Head is breathing heavily.
Essex is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Essex trying to control from the bottom.
Essex is looking to escape.
Essex tries to get to full guard but Head has control of the leg.
Essex manages to get to full guard.
Essex looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Essex utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Essex is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Essex throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Head wants to control from the top but Essex keeps moving.
Head wants to stand but Essex has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Essex is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Essex looking to control.
Head stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Essex swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they both work up against the meshing.
Essex wants to sweep here but Head controlling him for the moment.
Head throws a strike but Essex rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Essex pushes down on Head's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Essex wants to free his trapped foot but Head is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Head keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Essex tries to control but Head wriggling away.

Essex is looking for the choke from the back position but Head is controlling his hands well.
Head tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Head is squirming around, avoiding Essex's attempts to control the action.
Head's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Essex looking to control but Head is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Head can't escape the position.
Head is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Essex connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Essex manages to capitalize on a mistake by Head to take his back!

Essex is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Head is defending well though. Essex let's go of the attempt for now.
Essex wants to control the position but Head frees himself and scrambles - Essex manages to regain control in side control.
Essex wants to control but Head is keeping him busy.
Head has control of an arm but Essex manages to advance to Essex's back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Essex lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Markus Essex dominated that round.
That's time! Head's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Head misses with a takedown attempt - Essex sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jester Head is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Head shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Head drops back, looking for a kneebar! Essex looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Essex looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Essex!

enabling Head to counter with a crisp jab.

Head keeps control of Essex as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Essex changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Head fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Head counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Essex's guard now.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Head accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Essex is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Essex makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Essex.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jester Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Markus Essex.

Head looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Essex tries to kick Head off in order to stand up. Head Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Well Head has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
