PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrice Roy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Patrice Roy!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roy sprawls well. Roy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Black gets slowly back to his feet.
Black is looking to land body kicks.
Roy wants to land a leg kick but Black is out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Roy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Black tries to keep at a distance but Roy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Black really is a fat lump.
Black is working for takedown but Roy is calmly controlling the position for now.
Roy is struggling to control the position.
Black is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Roy gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Black tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Roy smiles and moves away.
Black shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Roy as he avoids it easily.
Black swats away the attempt to clinch by Roy.
Roy leaves Black with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Black fails with a takedown attempt.

Roy has taken the fight to the clinch.

Roy turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Roy manages to end up in side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Black tries to improve position but can't.
Roy postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Black might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Roy just content to control the position.
Roy connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Black some visible discomfort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Black tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Roy slows the pace down.
Black takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Roy has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Roy tries to clinch there but Black circles away.
Roy is looking to clinch.
Black drops his hands momentarily and Roy takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Roy stuffs the takedown.
Black is breathing heavily.
Roy scores with the left hand. Black knows he should have avoided that one.
Roy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Roy cracks Black with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Roy drives through and clinches with Black against the cage.
Black has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Roy is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Roy lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Roy throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Blacks head.

Roy has hold of one of Black's legs. Black is fighting the takedown attempt but Roy gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Roy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Black. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roy wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.
Roy with a nice head shot there.
Roy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Roy passes Black's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Black is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Roy is pressing down on Black's thigh, looking to free his foot. Black is holding on for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Black tries to get to full guard but Roy has control of the leg.
Black is trying to control but can't.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Roy lands a nice short elbow.
Roy slips a nice elbow through Black's hands, connecting with Black's forehead.

Roy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Black with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Roy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Black is looking to get back to is feet but Roy passes into side control.
Roy grinds an elbow into Black's temple.
Black is trying to control Roy's posture but Roy avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrice Roy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Black takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Black ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Roy moves away.
Roy cracks a nice hook into Black's ribs.
Black shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roy as he jumps to the side.
Roy jabs at Black's body.

Black fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roy avoids it really well and circles away.
Roy tries to clinch up but Black circles away and keeps his distance.
Roy is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Roy rushes Black and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Roy scores with a shoulder strike.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Roy manages to pull guard.

Black is posturing up here but Roy has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Black tries to roll out but it's too tight and Black has to tap! Slick submission there by Roy!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Patrice Roy!
