PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Pulver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Blood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Blood will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Pulver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Blood!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pulver shoots in but Blood avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Blood tries a head kick but it misses.

and Pulver counters with a takedown into side control.

Pulver is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Blood knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Blood is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Pulver wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Blood, who protects the arm well.

Pulver tries to move to mount but Blood blocks the move with his legs.

Blood doesn't have the hooks in and Pulver manages to turn into his guard.

Blood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pulver. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Blood has his foot on Pulver's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pulver works his way back into a safe position though.
Pulver wants to control from the top but Blood keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pulver is breathing heavily.
Blood is looking to control Pulver's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Blood avoid being mounted?

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Pulver sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Blood's guard.

Pulver is keen to just control but Blood is a slippery customer.

Blood is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pulver pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pulver looking to break Blood's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Blood remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Pulver will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Pulver is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Blood has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Pulver is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Blood is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Blood is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pulver drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pulver jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mike Blood has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pulver, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
