PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Remero Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Umberto Eco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Umberto Eco was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Remero Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Umberto Eco!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Remero Riggs has been cut.
Umberto Eco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Eco looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Riggs keeping moving, preventing Eco from controlling successfully.

Eco decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Eco changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Riggs tries to avoid it but Eco manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Riggs to the ground. Riggs escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Eco gets control of Riggs's arms and successfully pulls guard. Eco will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Eco wants to free his trapped foot but Riggs is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Eco thows a huge punch but Riggs dodges it nicely.

Eco unloads with some shots from mount but Riggs bucks and avoids them well.
Eco tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Riggs on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Riggs tries to get out of the position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Eco stuffs the takedown attempt from Riggs. Riggs gets slowly back to his feet.

Riggs in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Riggs drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Eco manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Riggs has Eco in his guard.
Eco stands up over Riggs, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Eco is looking to work some ground and pound but Riggs has wrist control.

Riggs is looking for a triangle but Eco pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Eco keeps control of Riggs as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Eco's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Eco is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Riggs grinds an elbow into Eco's temple.
Riggs lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Riggs wants to control but Eco is keeping him busy.

Well Eco has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
