Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Turd Ferguson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Smidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Smidt will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eric Smidt!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smidt clinches.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ferguson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smidt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ferguson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Ferguson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ferguson lands in his opponent's guard.
Ferguson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smidt swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ferguson cracks Smidt with an elbow. That is naaassty.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Ferguson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smidt for as long as he can get away with.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smidt can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ferguson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ferguson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Smidt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ferguson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ferguson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
