PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bob Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shonie Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Eminem-Cinderella Man. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shonie Carter!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Carter misses the target.
Carter takes a swing at Wilson's ribcage but misses.

Carter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wilson's guard.
Wilson wants to get back to his feet but Carter is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Carter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Carter wants to stand but Wilson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Carter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Carter is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Wilson is looking to stand up but Carter isn't so interested in that idea.
Carter tries to free his leg and advance position but Wilson is retaining full guard.

Wilson pulls Carter in close to prevent any damage.

Wilson kicks Carter off and gets to his feet.
Wilson blocks a jab.
Wilson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Carter counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Carter is looking to take a break and control but Wilson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Carter is looking to advance position but Wilson won't allow it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carter connects with a nice short shot to Wilson's temple.

Carter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Carter is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wilson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Wilson holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Carter is working for a kimura but Wilson is defending it quite comfortably.
Carter looks gassed!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carter wants to take a breather but Wilson is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wilson lands a lovely overhand right.

Wilson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carter sprawls well initially but Wilson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wilson moves into full mount! Carter won't be happy about that!
Carter keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Wilson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Carter hang on?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Shonie Carter will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wilson tries for a takedown but Carter circles away easily
and Carter cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Wilson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wilson takes one on the button.
Wilson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Carter counters with a left to the body.
Carter throws a right hand that Wilson ducks under and follows up with a left that Wilson also avoids with ease.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wilson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wilson showed some decent athleticism there.

Carter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wilson is working away from the top position though.
Wilson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Wilson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carter is just riding it out for now. Wilson eventually gives up the hold.
Wilson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Wilson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wilson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Carter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Carter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Bob Wilson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Carter counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bob Wilson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wilson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wilson has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close second round but I would say that Bob Wilson will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Wilson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wilson showed some decent athleticism there.
Wilson tries to pass to full mount but Carter defends it.

Carter trying to get back to full guard but Wilson takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Wilson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Carter tries to lock up and control but Wilson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Wilson working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Carter turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Wilson off and cradles Carter's limp body as Wilson celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Bob Wilson!
