PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rod Wallis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teemu Maijanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wallis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, h. Maijanen has chosen Katya Chehova - Ya robot [implex rmx] as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rod Wallis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Teemu Maijanen!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maijanen stuffs the takedown attempt from Wallis. Wallis gets slowly back to his feet.
Wallis looks to land a left hand but Maijanen moved out of range nicely.
Wallis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maijanen but Maijanen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A looping hook to the body misses from Wallis. Maijanen does a little dance to reset his feet.
A slapping leg kick lands for Wallis.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wallis jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Maijanen displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Wallis.

Maijanen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wallis moves away.
Wallis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maijanen tries to avoid it but Wallis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maijanen to the ground. Maijanen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Maijanen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Teemu Maijanen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wallis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Maijanen misses the shot to the body.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Wallis closes the distance and clinches up with Maijanen, looking for a takedown. Wallis pushes Maijanen against the cage but Maijanen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wallis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Maijanen avoids it really well and circles away.

Maijanen tries to bum rush Wallis with a series of wild strikes but Wallis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Maijanen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Wallis throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Maijanen stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Wallis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Maijanen sprawls well initially but Wallis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Maijanen is looking for a sweep. Wallis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Wallis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Maijanen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wallis has managed to get both his arms back between Maijanen's legs - danger averted.

Wallis wants to pass the guard but Maijanen is keeping the position.

Maijanen has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wallis is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Maijanen.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wallis thows a huge punch but Maijanen dodges it nicely.
Well, if Wallis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Wallis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Maijanen is not content to let Wallis control the position.

Maijanen swings around for an armbar but Wallis sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Maijanen's guard.

Maijanen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Wallis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Wallis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Wallis!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Maijanen has his foot on Wallis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wallis works his way back into a safe position though.
