PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maurizio Iacono (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tunying Jedi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Iacono comes to the cage accompanied by Kataklysm - Crippled & Broken. Jedi is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Binilanggo. Tunying Jedi has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Maurizio Iacono's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maurizio Iacono!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tunying Jedi!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iacono listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
A punch lands to the side of Jedi 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Iacono fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Iacono shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jedi defends it nicely.
Maurizio Iacono seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Iacono uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jedi.
Iacono lands with a nice combination. Jedi backs away looking to recover.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A looping hook to the body misses from Jedi. Iacono does a little dance to reset his feet.

Iacono drives through with a takedown into guard.
Iacono wants to control from the top but Jedi keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Iacono throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jedi works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Iacono pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Jedi is keeping the position for now.
Jedi keeping moving, preventing Iacono from controlling successfully.
Iacono looking to sit in guard and control but Jedi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Jedi wanted to stand there but Iacono had control of the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Iacono is looking to stand up but Jedi isn't so interested in that idea.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jedi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Iacono manages to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Iacono scores with a hook to the body. Jedi takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Iacono uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jedi.
Iacono pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Tunying Jedi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Iacono connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Tunying Jedi has been cut.
Jedi looks to score with a jab to the body but Iacono is just out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jedi looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Jedi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Iacono punishes Jedi's body with a nice straight punch.
Iacono connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Iacono changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Iacono wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Iacono wants to clinch up but Jedi keeps it at a distance.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jedi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Iacono shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Iacono working over Jedi with some ground and pound. Jedi looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Iacono passes to side control.
Jedi is breathing heavily.

Jedi prevents Iacono from moving into mount.
Jedi takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Jedi on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Iacono is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jedi can do to turn this around?

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jedi can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jedi is not content to let Iacono control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Maurizio Iacono.

Iacono shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jedi's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Jedi checks a leg kick.
Iacono is looking to clinch.
Jedi takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Iacono dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Jedi. That did some damage!
Jedi misses with a double jab.
Iacono lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jedi at a distance.
Iacono tries to land a front kick but Jedi steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Jedi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Iacono.
Jedi walks into a straight right hand from Iacono.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jedi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Iacono.
Jedi circles away from the clinch attempt.

Iacono looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Iacono feints and as Jedi raises his hands in defense, Iacono changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Maurizio Iacono overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jedi uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Jedi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Iacono.
Jedi is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Iacono rather than just go for the knockout.
Iacono swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Iacono closes the distance and clinches up with Jedi, looking for a takedown. Iacono pushes Jedi against the cage but Jedi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maurizio Iacono. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Iacono lands an overhand right.
Iacono tries for a takedown but Jedi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
A shot to the liver by Iacono. Beautiful body shot.
Maurizio Iacono is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Iacono moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Iacono lunges at Jedi with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Jedi's hand.
Iacono lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Iacono fails with the takedown.
Jedi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Iacono paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Jedi takes a shot to the body in his stride.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jedi throws a right and a left that Iacono avoids nicely.

Iacono moves into the clinch.
Tunying Jedi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Iacono lands with a left to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Maurizio Iacono showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Iacono has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
