Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joel Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Byrne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joel Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Simon Byrne!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Byrne slaps away a takedown attempt from Kelly, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kelly looks for a takedown but Byrne sprawls well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Byrne is looking for a sweep. Kelly is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Byrne should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Kelly gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kelly has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Byrne avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kelly jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Byrne walks away with a smile on his face. Kelly gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kelly takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

and Byrne counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Simon Byrne will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Byrne got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kelly has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Byrne has managed to get both his arms back between Kelly's legs - danger averted.
Byrne postures up and lands a big shot to Kelly's brow.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Byrne drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kelly manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Byrne has Kelly in his guard.

Byrne is looking for a triangle here but Kelly uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Byrne uses his free foot to push down on Kelly's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kelly.

Byrne is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kelly can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Byrne lands a big shot there that rocks Kelly but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Byrne can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kelly is looking to escape.

Byrne has hold of Kelly's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kelly manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Byrne throws a strike there. Kelly manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Byrne is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Simon Byrne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Byrne misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Byrne prevents Kelly from getting the reversal.

Kelly is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Byrne locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Kelly is forced to tap!
