The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simmons gets caught flat footed, as Fickett shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Fickett slips nicely into half guard.
Fickett takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Simmons manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fickett manages to get himself to full guard.

Simmons got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fickett has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Simmons has managed to get both his arms back between Fickett's legs - danger averted.

Simmons wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fickett keeps working.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fickett misses with a takedown attempt - Simmons sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Fickett tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Simmons ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fickett moves away.

Horrible takedown by Fickett or perhaps it was just good defense by Simmons which made him look bad.

Simmons leaves Fickett with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brad Fickett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Simmons feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Simmons is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Fickett can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
