Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Pato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Kelso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Pato!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Kelso!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelso connects with the punch.

Kelso shoots in for a takedown but Pato shows good takedown defense.

Pato has Kelso up against the cage in a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kelso changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pato fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Pato counters with a nice low kick that buckles Kelso's knee momentarily.
Kelso shoots in for a takedown but Pato shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kelso gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Pato lands a nice looking body shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pato throws a front kick that sends Kelso stumbling back into the cage.

Pato gets in close and instigates a clinch.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No joy there for Pato, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kelso does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Pato scores with a hook to the body. Kelso takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
A left and a right from Pato both land. Nice combination.

Kelso shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pato's guard.
Pato wants to stand up but Kelso is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kelso loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kelso sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pato's guard.

Kelso is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pato is just riding it out for now. Kelso eventually gives up the hold.

Kelso postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pato is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kelso, into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kelso looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pato is one step ahead there.

Kelso has his foot on Pato's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pato works his way back into a safe position though.

Kelso looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Pato has picked Kelso up and slammed him! Kelso can't keep hold of the triangle and Pato manages to pass to side control!
